Rancho Santa Margarita became a city on January 1, 2000, after voters in the planned community and its neighbors, Robinson Ranch, Dove Canyon, Rancho Cielo, Trabuco Highlands and Walden, chose to incorporate together. That mix still shows up on a delivery route: guard gates in a couple of canyons, condos on streets like Montana del Lago Drive, and homes near the base of Saddleback. Choose your variety, Noble Fir or Fraser Fir, and a size: the 6 ft runs $465 and the 8 ft runs $589, with tax on top. Delivery day
Both neighborhoods sit behind staffed gates, and the guard will look for TreeDrop on your guest list. Enter TreeDrop for the delivery date you choose and again when January pickup comes around, and list a contact name in case the gate needs one. These homes use a 92679 zip even though they're in the city, so double check the address you type at checkout.
In a condo or townhome, let us know which floor you're on, how many steps there are and where a truck can stop. The crew carries the tree up and sets it in the stand right where you want it. A tight turn on the stairs is worth measuring ahead of time, because an 8 ft fir is long and full before it's upright.
Around Robinson Ranch and Trabuco Highlands, some front doors sit up a set of steps or a sloped walk. Mention it at checkout, along with any side gate the crew should use, and if getting in is tricky, we'll confirm any added cost before you pay. Inside, measure your ceiling: 8 ft takes the 6 ft tree, 10 ft takes the 8 ft.
The local season
The city's annual Celebrating Family and Friends New Year's Eve event usually runs from 5 to 9 pm on December 31 at the Civic Plaza and Bell Tower Regional Community Center on El Paseo. If your tree is staying up for that, it has a long run from delivery day.
Warm, dry Santa Ana days can show up any time from September through May, according to the National Weather Service, and a cut tree indoors dries faster near a heater vent or a sunny window. Look at the water level each morning and top it off, from the first day through New Year's.

When the scheduled January pickup window arrives, the crew returns to haul out the undecorated tree and collect the loaned stand. Every ornament, light and hook has to be off first. If you were planning on the curb instead, the city's hauler, CR&R, has picked up holiday trees at the curb for about two weeks after Christmas, as long as anything taller than 6 ft is cut in two. Las Flores is served by Waste Management. With TreeDrop, nobody has to get the saw out.

Yes. Las Flores is unincorporated, but it sits right on the city's southern edge and is part of our regular route here. You get the same choices, a Noble Fir or Fraser Fir in 6 ft or 8 ft, and the stand loan, the setup and the January pickup come with it.
It will if the ceiling where it stands is about 10 ft. Leave roughly a foot between the treetop and the ceiling for the stand and a topper, which means an 8 ft ceiling calls for the 6 ft tree, and with 9 ft you can pick either size. If your living room is upstairs, measure the stair turn too.
Yes. The tree stays until the scheduled January pickup window, so it can still be lit on New Year's Eve, at home or after the Bell Tower celebration. Keep watering it every day, keep it clear of heat sources, and take off every decoration before pickup so the crew can carry it straight out.
